The author looks at the policies of the administrations leading up to and during the attacks. “The Day That Shook America: a Concise History of 9/11” by Samuel Walker is a new volume that questions why the attacks happened and why the nation was not more prepared.
“The One Percent Doctrine: Deep Inside America’s Pursuit of Its Enemies Since 9/11” by Ron Suskind illuminates the three years following the 9/11 attacks and answers the questions as to who was running the war on terror. Insight is offered into their hideouts and interrogations as well as information on how terrorists operate. Soufan delves into the mystery surrounding Al-Qaeda. “The Black Banners: the Inside Story of 9/11 and the War Against Al-Qaeda” by Ali H. “The United States of Jihad: Investigating America’s Homegrown Terrorists” by Peter Bergen studies the American who have joined terrorist groups, the operatives tracking them and the effect of social media on terrorism. Here are the accounts of ordinary people in extraordinary circumstances, on Flight 93, at the Pentagon and ground zero. “The Only Plane in the Sky” by Garrett Graff tells the story of Air Force One, flying solo while the events of 9/11 played out. It also offers measures to be taken against future attacks.
